SCC Race Team Mission

"We strive to support our riders in achieving their best not only as racers in a competitive field but as a fundamental part of our Club while providing a positive and healthy environment."  M. Diaz

The SCC Race Team was founded in 2012.  Based in McDonough, Georgia, the team strives to support and develop competitive road racers as well as promoting safe participation in competitive and recreational cycling, and encouraging healthy lifestyles.

Our 2013 overall results were a validation of the team for our competitors and our sponsors. The team was recognized as the overall champion at the category 3 level of racing. As a team we came in a respectfully 1st, 3rd, 9th, and overall rounded out the top 20 with the remaining of the riders, as well as 16 podiums overall.  The team is and will get bigger and stronger with riders from all over the world. For 2014, the team will be adding several additional riders at a pro-talent level to supplement an already strong core of returning riders. We will be participating in the category levels of Pro 1, 2, 3, 4 and Master level throughout the 2014 calendar year.

Jorge Collado

Jorge Collado was born in New York City, is a Cancer survivor, and the son of parents from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.  He moved to south Georgia in 2005 and took up cycling in 2006 with his brother-in-law Mauricio Henao, a professional peleton rider in Colombia, Europe and with top finishes in the United States.  Mauricio has been his inspiration and guide through this new journey.

Jorge started training during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. He started racing in 2007 for “Union Ciclistica Latina” resulting in several top 10 and 20 finishes.  In 2008 he had several races with top 20 finishes.  In 2009 and 2010 he was off the bike and learning more about the cycling world by managing his brother-in-law's team as a race team director for the Union Clinica Latina race team.

Still riding as a recreational cyclist with the occasional race here and there during the 2010 season, he started racing again in 2011. In the 2011 and 2012 seasons he had several top 10 finishes in Brooks and other events.

During the 2013 season he raced for Team SCC and held a board member position for the club.

Jorge's addition to the club and his experience has helped guide the team to several top finishes, including the Cat 3 championship and Cat 4 top 10 finishes.

During the 2014 season he will continue to ride for Team SCC/Evolution with high hopes of advancing to a Cat 3 level and having yet a better season than last year and hoping to bring out those recreational riders like himself and having them taste the rush, speed, fun and the safety which occurs on a cycling bike

Taylor Dunn

Taylor Dunn, a 26 year old life long resident of Henry County, started his cycling career as off-season training for Ice hockey in 2004. Soon after his grandfather opened his eyes to road cycling and after a few short BMX seasons through the ages of 14-16, Taylor decided to stick with road cycling. When Taylor started racing in 2011, he quickly realized how much he loved racing on the road. After finishing a strong first season with goals of moving up to cat 2, Taylor suffered a tore ACL in an unrelated accident. He was forced to miss all but one race at the end of the 2012 season. Good rehabilitation and strong focus saw Taylor through a good 2012-13 winter training. Going into the 2013 season Taylor felt good form coming, only to tear the same ACL halfway through the season. Taylor has currently been training since his last rehabilitation. Some of his goals for the 2014 season, are to progress to cat 2, and eventually look towards elite nationals in the following season. Some of Taylor race results are listed below.

Kenny Gilead

Kenny lived in New York in his early childhood days.  He moved to Atlanta in 1983 and spent the last 31 years of his life in Georgia.  He starting cycling by the way of a friend who was moving away from Georgia and wanted to get rid of a Schwinn bike.  Kenny started riding the Schwinn and enjoyed the healthy feeling. He was introduce to racing by a convincing former teammates. After his first time training with a race team he thought I would be admitted to the emergency room.  He recovered and because of his love for cycling and his extreme stubbornness, Kenny came back and trained repeatedly despite the intense effort.

Kenny began his race career with "Conexion Latina race team" where he won several races locally, as well as internationally.  Kenny decided to join Southern Crescent Race Team in 2013.  While representing SCC racing, he has won races in the Georgia Games Championship, finishing third in the Georgia State Championship, fourth in the Flowery Branch Crit, in addition to several other fourth place finishes.

Kenny's goals and expectations for the season are to win a couple races early on, to move up in category, and  help my team mates in anyway possible.  If this means, bridging a gap, leading out, attacking or even winning races Kenny says "this is what  I am here for".

Joey Stanley

2014 will mark a return to racing for Joey.  He plans to focus on MTB, Cross and Endurance races.  Joey began racing in 2006.  He raced the Georgia State Series and the SERC series and had 11 top 3 podiums in that first year.  He resides in McDonough Georgia.

In 2014 he will begin racing as a Cat 5 racer.  Brian has great expectation for himself to achieve great things through the year.  He will surely help the team in any way that he can.  Brian's enthusiasm, youth, fitness, and endurance are a welcome asset to the team.
