President "I started riding in 2012 on a Trek 3700 mountain bike and realized that I really enjoyed riding on the trails at Panola. After a short time on a cheaper road bike, I realized that this was something I enjoyed and upgraded to a better quality bike. I originally started my road to a healthier me at well over 200lbs, and now with the help of several styles of riding and a trip to the gym here and there, have realized how bad I felt. I have been an SCC member for several years now and believe that our club is very important to our hobby. The people that make up this club seem to be more of a family than just a club. I would really like to see our presence in the community become more known with rides and service. As far as a favorite type of riding, I think that is hard to say as they are all uniquely my favorite. I am pretty sure that quote came from someone else, but I will use it! My motivations in cycling come from all who ride. I see new riders that have a hunger and drive to be better or just to enjoy the ride, and I see riders that are 10, 20, or more years wiser than me absolutely killing the ride! I hope to continue to ride and enjoy all types of riding for as long as I can!"

Vice President "It seems that I’ve always had a bicycle and have cycled for fun (childhood), transportation (teenager pre driver license), competition (Triathlon’s) and now we are back to just for fun and exercise. I remember my first long distance ride was going up Kokekole Pass (Schofield Barracks, Hawaii) on my brand new five speed banana bike with my brother when I was eight years old. When I was eleven-fifteen years old I had a ten speed metal bike and would ride it down to the North Shore (round trip about 25 miles 12.5 all downhill and 12.5 all uphill). When I first joined the Army I started doing Triathlons as I was a strong swimmer in high school and college and the Army made me run so I thought why not. Of the three cycling wasn’t my strongest event, even to this day. I did my first 50 mile ride in 1985 Denver, CO half Ironman, my first 62’ ride at Cheaha 2021, first 100 ride Montgomery Classic 2021, second 100 ride Cheaha 2023 and First BRAGG ride 2023. Nowadays, I just enjoy road, mountain and gravel riding with family and friends. I joined SCC when I got back into cycling as my daily exercise routine about three years ago. I’ve been a part of the board for the past two year because I really enjoy riding with SCC. Cycling with SCC makes me push myself harder, I like helping new cyclists become better and it definitely seems safer to ride with someone or in a group to me."

Treasurer "I joined SCC back in the spring of 2017 after riding solo or with family members once or twice a week the previous two years. I’ve ridden since the 80’s; but nowhere close to the amount that I ride now. I ride because I like being outdoors and I ride with SCC because of the friendships that I’ve developed over the last two years. The support and encouragement of my fellow cyclists is second to none! I enjoy road and mountain biking and the gravel rides have started to grow on me. In 2018, my accomplishments included the Cheaha Ultra Century and the Six Gap Century along with a couple of other centuries. In 2019 my plan is to simply become a stronger rider. It was probably Barry “sit down” Snell that told me that “It doesn’t get any easier you just get faster”. Ride on, ride on!"

Secretary "I started cycling in 2005 when I made the decision to complete a triathlon. I enjoyed cycling so much that I began to focus solely on the bike. My favorite thing about cycling is being outside in nature and maintaining fitness with like-minded, great friends. I love different types of cycling: road, gravel, and mountain biking. I also really enjoy the mechanical aspect of using and maintaining a bike. Some of my big plans this year are to complete the Cheaha Ultra, Six Gap Century, and Trans North Georgia Adventure. In the future I’d like to take more bikepacking trips to see beautiful places that I would otherwise not be able to see."

“I started riding in 2011 and I can honestly say that it has changed my life in every way. Cycling has brought me better health, a job at Atlanta Trek where I met my wife, and I also became more involved in my community. Through cycling I have made many friends, a lot of whom I now serve with on the SCC board for my first time this year. Since joining the club in 2013 we have had a lot of fun growing in this sport and supporting cycling events like the Cheaha Challenge I will be attending this year. I look forward to meeting new faces and exploring new places on my bike as well as helping others to do the same.”

"I was relocated to Georgia January 2022 from Arkansas, where I began cycling regularly in 2010 to improve my health, being very overweight. I gradually lost weight and learned the N+1 of cycling. I never knew how bad a felt until I felt so good. I never intended to go “fast” but I found riding in a group cruising down the rode, I lost the feeling of the “Big Guy”, I began racing and competing, earning AR state time trial championships in Cat 5, 4 and Masters. After several incidents and surgeries, I fell back into the same ruts. I joined SCC soon after moving to GA (with the recommendation of a crazy Brit) to find a community to ride with. For me the last C in SCC is not just for Club but Community, where we can support and encourage one another in whatever your goals and ambitions are in cycling. In my time cycling I have learned, you will get out what you put in, set and share your goals and let you Community help and support you."

Dave Casebeer (Major Dave)
"I started in Des Moines Iowa riding to hobby shops. Summer of 1970, I rode my first long distance ride
on the Elroy-Sparta Rails to trails, some 62 miles. I was hooked and soon got a Schwinn Super Sport and was all over Southern Illinois and other states. I began racing in 1973 and continued to compete for 11 more years. That same year, my brother and I rode from south of St. Louis to the Smokies and back, 12 days and 1,500 miles. I raced road, track, time-trials in the states, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and the UK. I love road riding and enjoy this area’s velodrome on my 50-year-old track bike. I have been an SCC member since 2015 and enjoy running maintenance clinics. My goal is to complete my ½ million miles in the next two years, 15 K to go." |
