Mountain Biking
During the winter months it's difficult to focus on road biking. Short daylight hours can make it hard to find time to safely put the miles in on the road. Organized club group rides are over for the season. Bicycle racing programming on the TV is long gone, although it may still live on stored away on ones DVR. In these dark and dreary months before the spring many of us turn to the trainer. That area in our homes where the TV remote control sits on a table next to a bottle of chain oil, a rear wheel skewer, and a sweaty towel. Far enough out of the way where loved ones won't complain about the noise but it's still possible to ride comfortably.
If the mind numbing actibity of riding a trainer is not your thing than you might find one of the other winter cycling sports more agreeable. Cyclecross and mountain biking are two options. This page is dedicated to the latter.
In late December of 2012 Southern Crescent Cycling joined the International Mountain Bicycling Association - Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (IMBA-SORBA). The goal is to promote mountain biking within the club, stay in shape for the spring riding season when road riding returns, and have some fun. Some SCC members may recall when the Atlanta southside had its own SORBA chapter, SORBA Southern Crescent. That chapter was absorbed into the SORBA Atlanta chapter. Since then Southern Crescent Cycling has grown significantly on the road bike side of the house. The mountain bike side seems to have been neglected a bit in the process. We mean to change that.
